Fall 2026 Conference Operations & Logistics Intern
Internship Type: Remote internship, part-time and hourly.
Start Date Range: September 1-15, 2026
Eligibility: Open to current undergraduate and graduate students. Because the role is remote, a reliable internet connection is required.
Preferred Majors: Event or hospitality management; business administration, operations, or project management. Students from other fields with relevant interest or experience are welcome to apply.
Organization Overview
Alabama Sustainable Agriculture Network (ASAN) is a nonprofit that connects farmers, eaters, and advocates across Alabama to build a more sustainable and locally rooted food system. Through gatherings, peer learning, and on-the-ground support, ASAN helps farmers share knowledge with one another and strengthens the wider network of people growing and championing good food across the state.
ASAN’s flagship event is the Food & Farm Forum, an annual gathering that brings farmers, food producers, and community members together from across Alabama for workshops, skill sharing, and connection. The work is grounded in respect for farmers’ expertise and a belief that good food and good farming are built through relationships.
Organic Career Network (OCN) Cohort Experience
This internship is funded by the Organic Career Network (OCN), a national initiative dedicated to developing the next generation of leaders in organic agriculture. As an OCN-supported intern, participants join a select cohort of peers placed across organizations in the organic sector, gaining access to a broader professional network and shared learning experience. Interns are expected to attend four virtual cohort sessions throughout the internship, featuring facilitated discussions, guest speakers, and career-focused programming. This cohort model enhances the internship by providing structured opportunities for connection, mentorship, and deeper engagement with the organic movement.
Position Overview
Goal: Support the planning and execution of ASAN’s Food & Farm Forum by helping turn event plans into smooth, well-run logistics, working directly with ASAN’s contract Operations and Logistics Director so that farmers and attendees have a seamless experience.
Activities:
- Help coordinate Food & Farm Forum logistics, including venue details, scheduling, registration, and
- event materials.
- Support communication with and tracking of vendors, speakers, and volunteers.
- Maintain planning documents, timelines, and checklists, and help keep the team on schedule.
- Assist with day-of logistics planning such as room setup, signage, supplies, and attendee flow.
Measure for Success: A well-organized Food & Farm Forum with logistics that run smoothly, planning documents kept current and accurate, clear and timely communication with vendors and volunteers, and tasks completed on schedule. By the end of the internship, the intern should be able to describe the full arc of planning and running a statewide agricultural event.
Knowledge & Skills Expected to be Gained:
- Event and logistics planning, from early planning through day-of execution.
- Project coordination skills, including timelines, checklists, and vendor and volunteer management.
- Stakeholder communication across farmers, vendors, partners, and staff.
- Firsthand experience with how a statewide sustainable agriculture nonprofit operates.
- Practical problem-solving and adaptability in a real event setting.
Compensation & Qualifications: Compensation is $15 per hour for undergraduate interns and $18 for
graduate interns, not to exceed a total of $2,250/undergraduate or $2,700/graduate per semester. Interns
are not eligible for benefits. This internship is remote, so a reliable internet connection is required.
