Our first “Virtual Field Day and Farm Tour” will be hosted by the Alliance Demonstration Farm at Piney Woods School in Piney Woods, Mississippi. Piney Woods School is a co-educational independent historically African American boarding school for grades 9-12. It is one of the oldest African American boarding schools in the United States. Located on 2,000 acres of farm and woodlands in Rural Mississippi, the school offers a dynamic living/learning environment for students from all over the nation and points across the globe.
Topic will include, but not be limited to: “Crop/Variety Selection and Seed Acquisition; Spring Field Preparation; Seed Starting Demonstration; and a Farm Tour”. Experts/Presenters will include: Dr. Bill Evans, Director of Horticulture, Up in Farms; Mr. Rockiell Woods, Regional Director, National Center for Appropriate Technology Gulf States Office; and Dr. Shaun Broderick, Assistant Extension/Research Professor, Truck Crops Branch Experiment Station, Mississippi State University.
