From the organizers:
We are pleased that Mynelle Gardens in Jackson, Mississippi will be hosting this event. Major topics/activities will include: “Selection, Cultivation, and Maintenance of Ornamental Plants, Cut Flowers, and Fruit Trees, Presentations, Demonstrations, and a Tour”. Experts/presenters will include: Donna Yowell, Executive Director, Mississippi Urban Forest Council; Larry Stephenson, Southern Cultured Orchards & Nursery; Donna Beliech, ISA Certified Arborist and MSU-Extension Area Horticulturist; and Metro Master Gardeners. Two vendors (Southern Cultured Orchards & Nursery, and James Sharpening Service) will be available as early as 9:00AM with fruit tree plants and ready to sharpen your tools. So, bring those tools and get them sharpened on February 18th!
The Metro Master Gardeners (MMG) welcomes members from the Jackson Metropolitan Area. Its purpose is to promote responsible horticultural practices and education in accordance with the recommendations of MSU Extension Service. MMG projects include: The Doctors Herb Garden at the Mississippi Agriculture and Forestry Museum, the Oaks, Mynelle Botanical Gardens, and other ad hoc projects. MMG receives its funding through a spring plant sale and a fall seed sale. Proceeds from these sales go to projects at Mynelle Botanical Gardens, the Oaks, Greenwood Cemetery of Jackson, and the Doctor’s Herb Garden.
This event is also an opportunity to introduce Mynelle Gardens to some and re-introduce it to others. Mynelle Gardens is a beautiful venue that features a fantastic display of azaleas, daylilies, camellias, and hundreds of perennials, annuals, and naturalized bulbs. The beautiful and carefully landscaped setting changes with the seasons, even with the time of day. Still the mood is always tranquil despite the Gardens’ close location to busy Downtown Jackson. Visitors are welcome to picnic on the grounds. Artists and photographers are encouraged to visit. It is also a wild-life sanctuary and a haven for songbirds. Mynelle Gardens is available for special group and convention tours, private meetings, social gatherings, club meetings, classes, weddings, and receptions. (SEE DIRECTIONS BELOW)
