Where: River Valley Regional Commission
What do agribusiness and food systems in the River Valley Region need to thrive? These questions and more will be discussed by two professional teams in a special two-part presentation on food hub feasibility and successful wholesale and CSA modeling.
Experts from UGA’s Center for Agribusiness and Economic Development are giving a presentation Monday, December 16th at the River Valley Regional Commission about the results of their recently concluded Cold Storage Facility and Food Hub Feasibility Study, which was conducted in collaboration with UGrow, Inc., a Columbus nonprofit whose mission is to strengthen food resiliency in the region. The CAED team plan to share the nature of the project as well as their findings in a forum-style presentation that is open to stakeholders who participate in food-system development.
Additionally, wholesale and CSA champions Collective Harvest out of Athens will present an overview of their successful business model as well as their ideas and methods for building a program that provides fresh, sustainably grown produce to the Athens area – one that both supports the community as well as local, family-owned farms. Collective Harvest is invited to Columbus by Georgia Organics, a statewide food resiliency nonprofit that provides technical support to the area’s stakeholders.
