Harvest time is here and that means it is time to prepare to preserve those fruits and vegetables. To do this, careful planning, preparation, and knowledge of food safety must be used.
The Alabama Cooperative Extension System is offering a Canning Workshop at Petals from the Past. Attendees will learn about food safety in canning high-acid foods (water-bath canning), canning low-acid foods (pressure canning), jam and jelly making. Information will be available on pickling, freezing, and drying foods. Food safety will be an important part of this workshop, so canning equipment will be demonstrated. There will also be a live demonstration on water bath canning methods. Samples will be given!
