From the Alliance for Sustainable Agriculture Production, the workshop hosts:
The February field day will be one of the most important of the year! We are partnering with the Southern Sustainable Agriculture Working Group (Southern SAWG). The topic will include: “Growing Farm Profits”. This one-day workshop is designed for horticultural farmers who are ready to take steps to improve farm profits. Producing great crops is not enough to ensure that your farm will be economically sustainable. You need to know how to increase profits!
This intensive workshop will help you understand what factors impact profitability and will walk you through the steps for improving farm profits. Recordkeeping is involved. We’ll show you how to use farmer-friendly recordkeeping tools that will help you make smart decisions and improve your profits. This workshop won’t teach production practices, but you’ll learn how to determine which of the crops you grow are actually making you a profit. Learn how to work smarter, not harder!
This workshop will cover:
managing for profitability; critical decisions; product pricing; records that matter; enterprise evaluation; actual expense tracking; true cost discovery; market channel evaluation; profitability calculating; real farm examples; and useful tools.
Two great instructors will use their vast experience to help you grow your farm profits:
Ellen Polishuk – A long-time Virginia vegetable grower, whose farm will serve as a case study during the workshop, demonstrating real-life farm data gathering and how to use that data to make decisions that impact profitability.
Jim Munsch – A long-time Wisconsin farmer and an expert in farm finances. He has helped both conventional and organic vegetable and beef producers nationwide to improve their profits. Jim specializes in whole farm profitability.
Take home resources will include:
A CD Full of Farmer-Friendly Business Tools for Keeping Records and Making Decisions, with Both Sample Records and Templates for You to Use!
There is NO COST to attend this event, but PRE-REGISTRATION is required! Seating is limited!
PROGRAM: 9:00AM TO 5:00PM.
