A Part of American Solar Energy Society’s National Solar Tour
Sat., Oct. 6th & Sun., Oct. 7th. 2018 (Choose one day.)
The Five Solar Homes showcased are both energy efficient & use solar technologies that are clean & renewable.
A guided tour will be offered in Blount County on both Saturday and Sunday from 9 am to 4 pm,
including a brown-bag networking lunch. The tour is presented at no charge,
but REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED!
Tour solar homes that are comfortable to live in, energy efficient, and
use clean and renewable solar technologies. And come in a variety of shapes
and sizes:
• a strawbale house
• an underground house
• a dodeca-yurt
• a clerestory house
• an extensively retro-fitted 1960’s ranch house
• View solar water heating and solar PV electric systems. Explore passive
solar homes designed to warm up in the winter, and stay cool in the summer.
• See energy efficient appliances in action: LED lighting, mini-split
ductless heat pumps, geo-thermal ground source heat pumps, and a
super-efficient homemade refrigerator and freezer.
The tour involves short drives between some sites and about a ½ mile of
walking between others. Four homes are wheelchair accessible and all can be
accessed by vehicle for those requiring special assistance. Bring your
favorite picnic lunch and share ideas with a variety of interested and
interesting folks.
