Blount County in Alabama is the state’s Solar Home Capital. There are, at minimum, 11 solar homes in the county and that number is growing. See 5 of these solar homes (a standard home retrofitted for solar, an underground home, a straw bale home, a dodeca-yurt home, and a clerestory home), a variety of garden styles and numerous ways you can weave energy efficiency, sustainability, resilient community and permaculture into your own situation. The tour involves walking, though three homes are wheelchair accessible and for those requiring it, can be accessed by vehicle.
Registration is required for everyone attending tour, as space is limited.  E-mail or phone to register.
Cost: Free
Time: 9:00 AM – 4 PM either day
Bring a picnic lunch, lemonade will be provided.
Venue: Common Ground Intentional Community and other solar homes nearby, directions upon request.
